The object of flag rugby is very simple--score as many “Trys” as possible by placing the ball on or behind the opponent’s goal line.  Each player will be wearing a certain colored flag (the color will represent what team you are on).  To score a “Try” a team must pass sideways or backwards (and never forward), advancing the ball down the field without getting their flag pulled to score a “Try”.

Flag Rugby is a non-contact version of rugby that can be played safely in Physical Education classes.  Flag Rugby is a great team sport for a physical education class because all players get to run, catch, pass and score, regardless of their position, gender, size, shape or ability.

Flag Rugby is a team-invasion game, resembling an all inclusive and continuous team game of flag pulling with a strange, oval shaped, ball (looks like a GIGANTIC egg).  It is super easy to learn and even easier to play once you master some of the skill techniques and rules.  Flag Rugby encourages and utilizes teamwork, athletic skills and fitness.  Flag Rugby concentrates on balance, coordination, agility, visual awareness, handling, decision making and most importantly, fitness.

  1. BulletNo forward passes AT ANY TIME.  All passes must be sideways or backwards.

  2. BulletNo intentional physical contact.  Flags will be used to “tackle” the opposing team.

  3. BulletYou can not block another player to help your teammate advance with the ball.

  4. BulletNo intentional kicking of the ball.  Kicking can never be used to advance the ball down the field.

  5. BulletNever intentionally leave your feet to score a try.  You can not dive, slide, etc. into the try zone.

  6. BulletYou can not drop ball intentionally and roll to a teammate.  Advancing of the ball can only be done via running and passing.

  7. BulletIf a flag is pulled, the flag puller exchanges the flag for the ball.
