Parents,

I want to start off by saying thanks for visiting my website and I hope this means that you will be using this site on a consistent basis to stay informed about my class.  I made it a priority to develop a website that fosters a learning community between my students, parents and colleagues.  Ultimately, my goal is that you find everything you need to better understand what your child is doing in my class as well as see what teaching methods I use to bring a substantive, differentiated curriculum to my students.  To know a little bit more about me and my evolution to becoming a teacher, check out “About Me”.   Additionally, please take a few minutes to read “My Approach to Physical Education” as well as my Class Mission on the home page

I consider myself a progressive Physical Education teacher, bringing several curriculum aspects to my class, including written work.  As a result, there will be several homework assignments and projects throughout the year designed to reinforce concepts learned in class.  To be a complete, well-rounded Physically Educated  person, means that a student not just know “how”, but “why” we need to live a healthy, active lifestyle.

I have set up a comprehensive “6th Grade Page” which students utilize to access all of their class information and resources.  I also send out a weekly Blog to summarize the upcoming week in class.

Ultimately, in redesigning my website, my goal was to create a virtual classroom where the student community and parent community are connected.

To a great year,

Mr. Sickler

“It is paradoxical that many educators and parents still differentiate between a time for learning and a time for play without seeing the vital connection between them”- Leo Buscaglia

Click HERE to see a video on what the “new” type of physical education looks like.  This is a program in San Rafeal, and although our program at CMS does not model it exactly, the guiding principles and beliefs are identical.  Hope you enjoy!!!

Mandatory Supply List

Every student in my class is required to have a 1” clear cover binder, 4 tab dividers that can be labeled and 5 wooden pencils.  I have 1” binders for sale for $2.00 in my office.

Every student is required to have a CMS issued PE uniform as well that must be worn to class everyday unless specified.  Click HERE to get all details about purchasing PE Uniforms

Sportfolios

Every student will be required to make and update a Sportfolio throughout the year which will showcase what they are doing in class. I recommend you browse your child’s Sportfolio on a regular basis to see the quality of work they are producing.

HOW MUCH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TO KIDS NEED?
